Abbey iMEC with Tape Broad-Spectrum Horse Wormer and Boticide

Abbey iMEC with Tape is a low-volume oral horse wormer combining ivermectin and praziquantel for broad-spectrum control of susceptible roundworms, tapeworm and bots.

It treats intestinal roundworms, including arterial larval stages of Strongylus vulgaris and benzimidazole-resistant strongyles, as well as lungworms, tapeworms and bots. It also treats certain parasite-related skin lesions, including summer sores and cutaneous onchocerciasis.

The calibrated 7.74g syringe treats a horse weighing up to 600kg, with each plunger marking providing sufficient paste for 100kg liveweight.

Dosage

Administer orally at the recommended dose rate of:

• 200 micrograms of ivermectin per kilogram of liveweight
• 1mg of praziquantel per kilogram of liveweight

One 7.74g syringe treats one horse weighing up to 600kg.

Each plunger marking delivers 1.29g of paste, sufficient to treat 100kg liveweight.

• 100kg – one 100kg syringe increment
• 200kg – two increments
• 300kg – three increments
• 400kg – four increments
• 500kg – five increments
• 600kg – full syringe

Accurately determine the horse’s bodyweight before setting the syringe. Do not underdose.

Administration Instructions

1. Unlock the adjustment ring with a quarter turn to the left.

2. Slide the ring along the plunger until the side nearest the barrel reaches the required weight marking.

3. Turn the ring a quarter turn to the right to lock it in position.

4. Remove the cap from the syringe nozzle.

5. Ensure the horse’s mouth is free from feed.

6. Insert the syringe into the side of the mouth through the gap between the front and back teeth.

7. Advance the plunger to deposit the paste towards the rear of the tongue.

8. Immediately raise the horse’s head for several seconds to help ensure the complete dose is swallowed.

Use in Horses

At the recommended dose, ivermectin and praziquantel have wide safety margins in horses. iMEC with Tape may be used in horses of all ages when administered according to the label.

Mares may be treated at any stage of pregnancy. Stallions may be treated without adversely affecting fertility.

Possible Reactions

Some horses carrying heavy burdens of Onchocerca microfilariae may experience swelling and itching shortly after treatment. These reactions are believed to result from large numbers of microfilariae dying.

Signs generally resolve within a few days, but symptomatic treatment may be advisable. Consult your veterinarian if signs persist.

Parasite-Control Program

Resistance may develop to any anthelmintic chemical. Avoid unnecessary treatment, repeated exclusive use of the same active ingredients and underdosing.

Treatment selection and timing should be based on veterinary advice, management conditions and appropriate monitoring. Faecal egg counts can assist with roundworm monitoring, while tapeworm risk may require separate assessment.

Meat Withholding Period

DO NOT TREAT HORSES less than 28 days before slaughter for human consumption.
