Jumping saddle pads have a forward-cut shape designed to follow the flaps of jumping and close-contact saddles. This helps provide appropriate coverage beneath the saddle without excessive material extending below the shorter, more forward flaps. Individual features vary and may include shaped toplines, girth loops, retaining straps, decorative bindings and different lining materials.

Choose a pad that matches the size and shape of your saddle. It should extend beyond the saddle’s edges, lie smoothly without wrinkles and remain clear of the horse’s spine and withers. Check that the front of the pad accommodates the saddle’s forward cut and that its straps align correctly without pulling the pad out of position.

Remove the pad after riding and check the horse for rubbing, tenderness, unusual hair disturbance or uneven sweat patterns. Clean saddle pads regularly according to the manufacturer’s directions and inspect the fabric, filling, seams and attachment straps for wear.

A saddle pad cannot correct an unsuitable or poorly fitted saddle. Seek advice from a qualified saddle fitter if you have concerns about saddle balance, movement or pressure.
