The terms “cinch” and “western girth” are often used for similar equipment, but individual designs, buckles and attachment systems can vary. Before ordering, check that the product is compatible with your saddle’s rigging and suitable for the horse’s shape and intended activity.

Measure according to the instructions provided for the individual product, as sizing methods and fit can differ between brands. When correctly adjusted, the cinch should hold the saddle securely without pinching, rubbing, restricting the horse’s movement or sitting too close to the elbows. Tighten it gradually and evenly, then recheck the fit after mounting and during the initial warm-up.

Fleece and wool-lined options may provide a softer surface for sensitive horses, but they require regular cleaning to prevent the build-up of sweat, hair and dirt. A cover or tube should fit smoothly and remain securely positioned; it cannot correct an unsuitable or incorrectly sized cinch.
