Kawakawa Gold – Healing Salve for Horses & Hounds

Kawakawa Gold is a hand-made, 100% natural healing salve packed with soothing organic herbs and Active 15+ Mānuka Honey. It is designed to support the topical care of minor skin conditions and irritations in horses and dogs.

Use it on irritated, dry, flaky, yeasty, inflamed or cracked skin. It can also be used as a paw balm for dogs and as a gentle salve for common equine skin complaints. The rich beeswax base creates a nourishing barrier that helps protect damaged skin from contamination while it heals.

For best results, use the Kawakawa Massage Soap first to help remove bacteria and yeast (do not use soap on open, bleeding wounds), then apply the salve.

“After dealing with inflamed, raw skin on my own horses and dogs from flea bites, ticks and eczema, I wanted a natural alternative to steroid creams and strong medications. One of my dogs had a severe reaction to a flea bite and rubbed his skin raw. Out of desperation, I used my background in herbal medicine to research plant biochemistry and create my own formula.

The results were incredible—his hair grew back, the essential oils helped calm the itching and deter further parasites, and the salve soothed his dry, itchy skin and supported recovery from a fungal and yeast infection. The same formula also helped my horse’s mud fever by providing a protective beeswax barrier against dampness and irritation.”

Herbal Infusion & Formulation

Our salve is made using a cold infusion of organic herbs into oils rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9 over several weeks. As the plants infuse, their beneficial constituents gently transfer into the oil without heat damage. The oil gradually deepens from pale to dark green.

Cold-infusing by cooling or freezing the herbs into the oil helps preserve the fragile medicinal properties of the leaves. After infusion, the herbal oil is blended into a beeswax base and finished with only two essential oils: Lavender and Cedarwood.

• Apply topically to affected skin.

• Do not dip hands that have touched skin back into the jar. Use clean gloves, a disposable spoon or spatula to avoid contamination.

• Always consult a vet first if your animal needs stitches, has signs of infection, requires surgical intervention or internal antibiotics.

Organic Herbal Infusion (Cold-Infused for One Month)

Kawakawa (Organic Dried Herb)
A revered New Zealand medicinal plant with soothing, analgesic properties. Traditionally used for eczema, rashes, burns, lacerations and a wide range of skin irritations.

German Chamomile
An ancient medicinal herb whose flowers contain volatile oils (bisabolol, bisabolol oxides, matricin) and flavonoids such as apigenin. Topically, it helps calm inflammation, soothe itchiness, rashes and sensitive skin. It may also help relax sore, achy muscles and has a gentle calming effect.

Calendula
Hydrates and soothes inflamed or infected skin. As an infused oil, it offers anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Often used to support dermatitis, eczema, mud fever, rashes and irritated dry skin.

Aloe Vera
Rich in vitamins (including Vitamin E), minerals, amino acids, enzymes, plant proteins and liposomes. Known for its cooling and soothing action on sunburn, scrapes, cuts, rashes and dry skin.

Comfrey
Traditionally used for thousands of years. Contains allantoin to support cell regeneration and rapid tissue repair. High in calcium and Vitamin C, it helps coat and soothe irritated tissue, reducing inflammation and scarring.

Dandelion Root
High in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium and natural detoxifiers. Its alkaline extract offers germicidal, insecticidal and fungicidal properties to help combat skin issues and calm inflammation.
