Jenquine Calsorb Forte is a fortified calcium and mineral lick block designed to support calcium intake and bone health in horses grazing pasture or where daily hand-feeding is not practical.
Formulated with a combination of organic and inorganic calcium, Calsorb Forte also supplies important trace minerals and salt. The organic calcium provides an absorbable source of dietary calcium, while the inorganic calcium helps manage soluble oxalates in the digestive system.
Calsorb Forte is particularly useful for horses grazing oxalate-containing subtropical pastures such as kikuyu, panic, setaria and buffel grass, or consuming diets based on grassy, oaten or teff hay and other feeds that may be relatively high in phosphorus or low in available calcium.
The convenient lick-block format allows horses access to supplementary calcium and minerals in paddocks, yards or stables without requiring the product to be mixed into a daily feed.

WHY CALCIUM BALANCE MATTERS
Some Australian pasture grasses contain oxalates that bind calcium and reduce the amount available for absorption by the horse. This can occur with grasses including kikuyu, panic, setaria and buffel.
High-phosphorus feeds, grain-based diets and some types of hay can also affect the overall calcium-to-phosphorus balance of the diet.
Over time, inadequate available calcium can contribute to loss of calcium from the skeleton and nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism, sometimes referred to as “bighead”. Maintaining an appropriately balanced diet is therefore particularly important for horses grazing high-oxalate pastures.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Place Calsorb Forte where horses have convenient access in the paddock, yard or stable.
Jenquine recommends monitoring consumption, and weighing the block periodically can be useful for assessing intake. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
Individual intake can vary between horses. If calcium deficiency, nutritional imbalance or a clinical condition is suspected, seek veterinary or equine nutrition advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is Jenquine Calsorb Forte used for?
Calsorb Forte is a fortified calcium and mineral lick block designed to increase dietary calcium intake and support bone health, particularly in horses grazing oxalate-containing pastures or where regular hand-feeding is impractical.
What is the difference between Calsorb Forte and Bone Formula Forte?
Both are designed to provide supplementary calcium and minerals. Bone Formula Forte is a powdered supplement intended to be added to feed, while Calsorb Forte is a lick block suited to paddocks, yards and stables where daily hand-feeding may not be convenient.
Which grasses can interfere with calcium availability?
Oxalate-containing subtropical grasses such as kikuyu, panic, setaria and buffel can reduce calcium availability in horses.
Does Calsorb Forte contain both organic and inorganic calcium?
Yes. Jenquine currently describes Calsorb Forte as containing both organic and inorganic calcium. The organic calcium provides an absorbable calcium source, while the inorganic calcium assists with soluble oxalates in the digestive system.
Does Calsorb Forte contain molasses?
No added molasses or grain is used, and Jenquine describes the block as low in sugar and starch.
Can Calsorb Forte be left outside?
Yes. Jenquine describes it as weather resistant and formulated so that it does not fall apart or melt in rain.
Is Calsorb Forte suitable for horses that are not hard-fed?
Yes. This is one of its main advantages. The lick-block format is intended particularly for horses that are not regularly hand-fed and can be used in paddocks, yards and stables.
Can Calsorb Forte help prevent bighead?
Calsorb Forte is designed to help address dietary calcium insufficiency, including where oxalate-containing pasture reduces calcium availability. “Bighead” is associated with prolonged calcium imbalance, but horses suspected of having calcium deficiency or nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism should be assessed by a veterinarian.
How do I know how much my horse is consuming?
Consumption can vary between horses. Jenquine suggests weighing the block regularly as a practical way to monitor intake.
