Bee Kind Beeswax Waterproofing Wax Bar – Heavy Duty (100 g)
A solid, heavy-duty waterproofing bar made from premium beeswax and a blend of hard waxes – designed for serious outdoor protection on fabrics and gear.
Allergy note: Do not use this product if you are allergic to bees. Heating the wax may attract bees, as they can detect beeswax from long distances.
Why a Wax Bar?
The bar format lets you apply pure, natural wax directly to fabric without messy melting or wasted product. If you try to melt solid waxes in bulk, they often harden on the brush before reaching the surface.
We also do not recommend thinning wax with turpentine or other solvents – turpentine is highly flammable and poses toxicity risks. If you wish to thin the wax, use an oil, not turpentine.
This product is not a flammable liquid, is safe on skin, and produces no toxic fumes or harsh chemical vapours – an excellent choice for people with asthma or sensitive skin.
Ideal Uses
Made from high-quality beeswax and a blend of durable waxes, this bar is perfect for heavy-duty waterproofing of:
-
Outdoor equipment and float or tent awnings
-
Tent seams and rucksacks
-
Jackets, pants and bike wear
-
Backpacks and hats
-
Synthetic and canvas horse covers (topside and stitching)
-
Horse saddle blankets
-
Trekking and hiking boots
-
Jeans and canvas shoes
-
Fishing and hunting gear
-
Any fabric or surface that needs a tough, water-repellent finish
The bar is easy to handle and great for getting into hard-to-reach seams and stitching.
For horse rugs (canvas or synthetic), the wax must be heated and cured into the fabric for best results.
You can also use a single bar just to treat top seams and stitching where water hits hardest in heavy rain, which can help maintain breathability in heavier rugs. As a guide, allow up to 2 bars per 5 ft rug, although one bar may be enough depending on coverage.
How to Apply
-
Prep the fabric
Make sure the item is clean and completely dry. -
Apply the wax
Hold the bar with a cloth and rub it back and forth over the fabric. The friction will soften the wax and transfer it onto the surface. Ensure the wax is spread evenly. -
Heat to cure
Melt the wax into the fabric using one of the following:-
Heat gun
-
Hair dryer on high heat (best for smaller garments)
-
Iron on a low synthetic setting (use with care)
-
-
For large surfaces (e.g. horse rugs)
For best results, apply a second coat immediately after thoroughly heating the first application. -
Check the finish
If the wax appears white and sticky, it has not been fully cured into the fabric and will not be properly waterproof. Reapply heat until it darkens and fully absorbs. -
Cure time
Leave the item overnight to dry and cure completely before use.

Removing the Wax
To wash the wax out of fabric:
-
Set the wash temperature to 60°C and wash twice.
-
For larger garments or covers, you can place items in tied black rubbish bags and tumble dry in 10-minute intervals to help soften and remove wax between washes.
Ongoing Care & Reapplication
-
Reapply wax every 1–2 years, depending on use and exposure.
-
Waxing will darken the fabric and add a light sheen.
-
Untreated fabrics will absorb more wax than previously waxed or oiled fabrics.
-
Our bars are excellent for one-sided waxing, sealing the top layer and quickly re-proofing factory-waxed or oiled garments like oilskins.
-
When melted during application, the wax penetrates deeper, giving a more factory-finished look – ideal for multi-layer coats, jackets and re-proofing existing oilskins.
Special Note for Horse Rugs
This product is not ideal for thin, white cotton sheets on horses. Because beeswax is naturally tacky, it can attract dirt when horses roll, especially if the wax has not been fully melted in and allowed to dry before use.
